Hello all - I bet you are fed up of all my questions I picked up my new insoles from orthotics yesterday. They are really strange and have like a small heel on them. Problem is - I can't fit them and my feet into any of my shoes comfortably even though they are eee fit. Orthotisist says they will have to make me some if I can't find anything suitable. I would be grateful if anyone who has the mega insoles could let me know where you get your shoes from. Thanks Julie

Hi Julie,
Gosh they must be mega insoles! All I can think of are the Hotter shoes , I think they do a eeee width. Try shoeshop.com, they have a sale on at the moment I think.

Me too Julie! My podiatrist made some for me last year but they make my shoes too shallow and cause new aches and pains.
I was going to post about shoes. Does anyone else have the dual problem of very painful, knobbly toes and giant feet!? I'm a size 43 (9) so don't have the option of going up a size. Most of teh time I wear Clarks Originals but I really struggle if an occasion calls for something other than my beloved Crocs collection or the Clarks!
I'd appreciate any advice on finding shoes that fit and look half decent! Thanks, Ailsa

I have insoles, and one of them has a raised bit underneath which means that in some of my shoes, I tend to fall out of them. The other thing is that I can't get them into any of my shoes with laces, so am limited as to when I wear them.
Sorry I can't help with makes of shoes, I'm still trying to find some myself. I feel that with my lace up shoes, they keep my feet contained well. It will be a different matter when summer comes, though.

Hello, I was given insoles with instep section attached to them - I was told to break them in for an hour a day - To expect dis-comfort but if it got excruiating pain I was to stop. I have never been able to wear heels and due to the RA my feet appear to be wide/ I also buy expensive shoes and the OT said she was pleased to see I have sensible shoes. I live in Somerset so go to Street for Clarkes shoes , I managed to get wide fitting in patent pump type shoes (so fairly modern) and my insoles do fit. Also in Taunton there is a Shuropdy shop there and I got last week lovely wide summer shoes which have an enclosed back so the insoles fit in them as well. Perhaps you can buy any of this on line. Good luck

I can get my very thick insoles into Clark`s shoes, and the orthotist made me a second pair, which he shaved slightly so that I can get them in my trainers. Can`t remember when I last wore "dressy" shoes! Kathleen x

At the moment I'm in Hotter shoes as their insoles can be removed and replaced with the orthotics thingys but would like dressier shoes on occasion.....

to Blackcat and Ailsa.......................not that we're starting a competition or anything, but my feet are even bigger than yours and I take a wide fitting too.!!! I've just waited 13 months for orthotics to make me two pairs of shoes(complete with "proper" insoles), which sort of fit!!! You could do worse than to look at JDWILLAMS site, as they do very wide up to a 9 now, good luck, Lxx Always be aware that what you do might hurt others........and if it could, do nothing without careful consideration of the consequences

Thanks for all the tips - I'll check out the websites this weekend. I'm beyond 3e fit now and the 4e fit ones I've seen really don't impress but seems like will have to find the best of a bad bunch. I know so many people have been through this but I bit the bullett and chucked out all my pre-RA shoes this week - gutted.

Wow always thought it was just me with huge feet - I'm an 8! I completely struggle with shoes and love my crocs too. Thanks for the recommendations for websites, I will check them out. One thing though, Clarks in Wolverhampton refused to measure my feet and said they only do kiddies even after I explained why I wanted them measured :(.
Must admit, I can't bring myself to get rid of my shoes which no longer feel comfortable.

Clarks in Durham wouldn`t measure my feet either! I`d asked them to on the recommendation of the podiatrist, but they wouldn`t. Must be a Clarks policy. Kathleen x

I'm also in the big feet club, around an 8-9. For years before RA, I struggled to find shoes narrow enough as I was a AA and sometimes bought a size too small in lenght just to get the right width, ha ha , no longer I now have wide feet that on a bad day grow even wider. I also have the wretched orthotic things and they are just too high at the heal so that when you walk shoes don't stay on. The only shoes that I can walk in now are Hotter (without the orthotics) I bought two pairs the same but different sizes so that if my right foot is very swollen I can wear one size on one foot and the other size on the other and they still look like a pair (not a cheap option I know, also I bought the size 9's in a wide fit. However I'm seriously thinking I cutting the orthic innnersole from the hospital up by taking the heal part off and leaving the arch support to put in my shoe, has anyone else done this and did it work? Best wishes Sheila

I have had problems with orthotics for years! I actually gave up with them a couple of years ago as they were making my feet worse. I kept going back to have them altered but I just couldn't get on with them at all. I tried crocs for a while but then found the sole too hard and no ankle support.
I now wear "Melissa" sandals made by Earth. They have an anatomic arch support and a moulded Gel foot bed, which moulds to the shape of your foot like an orthotic sole. They are soooo comfortable and have not only helped me to walk better but improved my posture too.
Best wishes Rebecca

I had some insoles made at the hospital (long story) but they are useless. Far to big to get in my shoes and if I do manage to get them in a pair, there is no room for my feet. I always thought that you bought innersoles if your shoes were too big and they made them smaller.
I went to see a chiropodist because due to the RA making me flat footed I was told that I had a build up of hard skin on the balls of my feet, which was making it very painful to walk. I showed him the offending insoles and he was amazed when I told him how I was measured for them. Foot on an A4 piece of paper which was drawn around. He asked how they knew what the bone sturcture of each foot was, how they knew where to put the raised up bit to support/try to raise my fallen arch. Asked if I had to stand on a carbon piece of paper so they could see the structure of my bones. No, just the piece of A4 paper, only had one piece as well, foot drawings crossing over each other. NHS cut backs, they couldn't spare two pieces of paper for me.
He told me to get some innersoles for trainers from a sports shop, what people put in there trainers to support their feet when they are jogging. I didn't get any because having the hard skin removed helped such alot, making it bearable to walk (not in my killer heels though I must add).
Must be getting a build up again because it's starting to hurt alot again.

Thanks Lylie
Will look at the JD Williams site. Am glad am not the only one with large feet!! There is a shop in Kingston that does shoes for people with big feet - 8 and a half to 11 but no good if you don't live in Surrey....
Have found Clarks really patchy with 9s - some stuff in 9 but not all and it depends how helpful the branch is when you go in.

Hi Julie i have recently had some shoes from widerfitshoes.co.uk also known as DB or easy b shoes they go up to a 6E or more i think and give vat off for problem feet above a certain width. They are not the most fashionable shoes but the wide fit slim look ones are quite nice, i have a pair of those in burgundy and they are smart and comfy with insoles.
Bevxx
PS They got here really quickly as well and the refunds and exchanges are quick as well.
